The former CEO of Godfather Pizza and Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain claims he thought of quitting his campaign twice. That was before he achieved the Florida "Presidency Five" straw poll Saturday. Article resource: Herman Cain considered quitting his campaign twice before straw poll
Got about 37 percent of votes
Cain ended up in the lead with 37 percent of the 2,657 votes. He beat out Texas governor Rick Perry who is the front-runner but only got 15 percent of votes. Many saw the triumph as more of a blow to Perry than a victory for Cain, following Perry's poor showing in the Republican prospect controversy on Sept. 22.
How Cain feels about this
Cain was quick to defend the triumph.
“It’s not a protest vote,” Cain said on NBC’s “Today” show. "The voice of the people is more powerful than the voice of the media."
Stopping was a choice two times
Cain spoke about the victory while saying he almost quit the campaign twice before the straw poll triumph happened, in an interview with Chris Moody of Yahoo! News.
"The thing that I've learned about myself in this campaign -- because I've never had this happen to me before on a single challenge -- is that I've gone to the brink, ready to pull the plug, but came back, twice. I've only had two days where I personally felt, should I pull the plug? For different reasons. That's how frustrating a campaign can be."
Nobody winning right now
The GOP has had a hard campaign this year while embracing “darlings” and turning on them just as quickly. With the Tea Party dividing the party, a front-runner is now hard to find. The candidates are all fighting too, which makes it hard for any person to trust or like a candidate member. Perry is only probably the most recent front-runner to lose favor.
SNL makes fun of it
Actor Kenan Thompson played Cain in a recent Saturday Night Live skit where he used the slogan “I will deliver” as a campaign slogan parodying the candidates past in the pizza business. Cain wasn’t offended at all.
"You may hear that last line in my next debate performance," Cain said on NBC’s “Today” show. "I loved that SNL spoof; it didn't offend me at all."
Will it be a historic campaign?
There would be two black men attempting to become president if Cain got the nomination, which would easily make history.
